College choices made for the right reasons

by Kathy, reporter

So where do you want to go to college? A question that is usually met with a shrug, changed during “Education: Go Get It Week.” From October 5 to October 9, Go Get It Week offered students information about higher education options, financial help with college and automatic college admission programs.
Go Get It Week really made the students wonder about what colleges they want to attend.

Ebony Warner (8) said, “I want to go to Harvard to become a lawyer.”
William Menjivar (8) said, “I want to go to UT and major in technology.”

On Monday and Tuesday the teams drew, colored and taped banners of the college they wanted to attend. On Wednesday the “Jump Start” handouts were passed out and discussed in advisories.

Mr. Lankford said, “I think it’s great that students are looking forward into their futures.”

On Thursday the advisory teachers shared their college experiences with their students. Classes discussed which college they wanted to attend and what they hoped to major in.

And during lunch periods the students played Are you smarter than a 12th grader? with the counselors.

Anthony (8) said, “I want to go to UT and major in engineering.”

And to cap it off, on Friday the students got to sport their favorite college t-shirt, sweater or hat. The students were also required to take a pop quiz to test their college knowledge.
